The Pandemic Unemployment Assistance portal (PUA) launched and supported with the help of Deloitte which signed a contract with the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) could have reportedly been misused but the measures were taken.
One of the PUA claimants accessed PII of a number of other applicants and alerted the IDES to the incident so that the system safe operating could be secured immediately.
The portal has been active for only about a week, and both the company and the Department have already begun an investigation process.
The PUA system was created to ensure benefits for those who turned unemployed due to COVID-19 causes, the program is federally-funded and is meant for cases which are off of the state’s regular unemployment insurance program. More than 50,000 claimants have already registered to get their applications processed.
